Image Stratigraphy with Tanya Busse
Tanya Busse discusses her artistic practice and recent work in conjunction with her exhibition Secretary of the Invisible.
Escola vaga, seminar 5. March 2022
3PM
In her videos, photographs, and works on paper, Busse investigates how images are formed and how they shape human perception, in relation to time and space. A central preoccupation of her work is the attempt to make visible material that which at first does not appear to be so. Images are never neutral, but rather are loaded with stratified layers of politics, history, and aesthetic conventions of the time and place of their production. Most of her recent work is set in the high North of Norway where she resides, and explores how arctic ecology coexists with unveiled globalization, the mineral extractive industry, and militarized and post-military spaces.

Tanya Busse and Karolin Tampere, curator at North Norwegian Art Center get together for a guided visit to the exhibition Secretary of the Invisible. It will be a moment to delve into research themes that also guide the program of the entire TEMPORADA.
Escola vaga (the Vaga school) is an independent program of artistic studies that presents a curriculum articulated with the programmatic contents of vaga, through seminars that introduce new references around the great themes of contemporary art, and small workshops that focus on creation processes, conceptualization and artistic production. The goal is to generate new skills and knowledge among the school and artistic community living in the Azores.
TEMPORADAS is supported by the Connecting Dots - Artistic Mobility and Audience Development program of the EEA GRANTS fund, in a strategic partnership and co-financed by the Municipality of Ponta Delgada.

Post Capitalistic Architecture with Joar Nango
Escola vaga, seminar 4. May
06h30 PM
Joar Nango, a Sámi architect and visual artist from Northern Norway, will present "The Post Capitalistic Architecture TV-SHOW”, an art project and ongoing study of architecture after the fall of capitalism, done in collaboration with his cousin and filmmaker Ken-Are Bongo.
In "PCA-TV", we are introduced to the artist's home and local environment in Sápmi, the traditional homelands of Europe's northernmost indigenous group. For the series, Nango and Bongo travel through the Arctic landscape in a mobile TV studio built in an old red van and explore everything from vernacular building techniques to major political power structures that form the basis of the built environment in the North. They meet with many guests - academic researchers, craftsmen, lawyers, artists, herders, and activists, over a campfire coffee cup in the car or zoom conversations projected on the halibut stomach screen mounted in the studio.
In the seminar at vaga, Joar Nango will share a few snippets from the Tv-series and introduce some of the main artistic reflections the project deals with.
