Every year, the Northern Norwegian Art Centre distributes funds to independent art projects that take place in Northern Norway. In this way, the centre aims at spreading art in the northern part of the country.
With the funds, North Norwegian Art Centre wants to encourage non-traditional methods, platforms, formats, working methods and ways of working with the public. At the same time, the centre aims at offering artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in long-term processes.
Ever since the 1990s, the Northern Norwegian Art Centre has had its own scheme for the distribution of funds for art projects in the region. Artist Initiated Project Funds, as the scheme is called, can be seen as part of the artist centre's focus on its own region. It is also a contribution to the fact that art can benefit more people, considering both artists and the public, and the scattered nooks and crannies in which they find themselves.
