As a part of the activities of North Norwegian Art Centre, we support independent projects initiated by artists. To be eligible for support applicants must be professional artists working within the field of visual arts, and the project must take place within the region of Northern Norway.
As part of its work in the region, North Norwegian Art Centre distributes a total of NOK 200 000 from its own funds to free and independent projects initiated and carried out by artists.
Priority will be given to projects that are:
- Applying other forms other forms of expression, processes, and methods than the traditional gallery exhibition
- Based on long term artistic processes and/or research
- Taking place in areas where there is little artistic activity and/or infrastructure.
This does not exclude the funding of projects taking place in galleries or museums. For applications oriented more towards long-term processes, a clear result should be described. Artists and groups of artists may apply. Recipients are fully responsible for conducting the project themselves.
Who may apply? Where and when should the project take place?
Applicant must be an artist working actively within the field of visual arts.
The project must take place within the region of Northern Norway (i.e. the counties of Finnmark, Troms, or Nordland)
The project's activities must start at the latest by the end the latest by the end of 2025. The project must be finalised at the latest by the end of 2026.
In all information and published material related to the project it should be stated that North Norwegian Art Centre has supported the project.
The application must include:
- Project description including budget with income and expenses (max. 5000 characters).
- Amount applied for from the North Norwegian Art Centre.
- Resume/cv for the applicant.
- Documentation / illustrations relevant for the project description: 8 pictures, and if needed links to video- and sound files.
If the project includes a group of artists, one person should be appointed as responsible for the project.

Starting in 2025, project funding will be distributed twice a year. North Norwegian Art Centre will distribute NOK 200 000 from its own funds in the first round, and NOK 200 000 from delegated funds from the The Relief Fund for Visual Artists in the second round.
