LIAF 2004
Human, Fucking Human
Before the festival took place in 2004, it was renamed Lofoten International Art Festival – LIAF. The local art scene was represented by Kabelvåg artist Thor Erdahl, among others, but, as the name suggests, the exhibition had a stronger international profile than previously. Of nineteen artists, five were Norwegian, most of whom were well established. The festival theme took a more misanthropic turn that year; with the title Human, Fucking Human, it dealt with ‘humanity’s tyranny over itself and its surroundings’. One of the works in the exhibition that has since received most attention was Elmgreen & Dragset’s Tiergarten [Zoo], Berlin May 21st, 1991, a bronze cast of a cooling box which was placed on the pier in Svolvær as a permanent installation. The main exhibitions were shown in a former cold storage facility, Kjølelageret, and the sports hall in Svolvær, the latter of which was converted to an exhibition area with architecturally designed modules.
LIAF 2004 was curated by Tor Inge Kveum and Göran Christenson.
