LIAF 2017, I Taste the Future, wanted to speculate about the future but without falling into apocalyptic thinking. Science fiction, performance and collective visions of the future were central to this edition of the biennial. This was also the first time LIAF was held in Henningsvær.

Using this fishing village with about 460 inhabitants as the point of departure, a group of artists was invited to imagine how the world would be in 150 years. The results of this thought experiment were shown in the former carpentry and cod liver oil factory Trevarefabrikken, at the wharf Nordbrygga, in the old fish-processing plant Fredriksenbruket, in Henningsvær Stadium and in the streets between these facilities. Throughout all of September, LIAF presented daily performances and held a weekly programme consisting of films and lectures.

LIAF 2017 culminated in an international cross-disciplinary symposium, The Henningsvær Charter, organised through collaboration with Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and NTNU/Trondheim Academy of Fine Art.
