In 2019 an iron meteorite was filed to dust, stirred into cream, and fed to 36 people. Flis’s uterus was rife with tumors soon after. Their belly swelled as a fleshy block pushed its way out at astonishing speed. From the first poke of a finger to WebMD, X-rays and MRI, each diagnostic tool came up short. From meteorite falls to transgender experiences of the medical system, the video asks questions about diagnosis and how certain people’s testimony is dismissed as unreliable.
Flis Holland's work is presented at the Lofoten International Art Festival both at Kraftholmen in Svolvær and in a satellite exhibition at the artist-run exhibition venue NŌUA in Bodø, in collaboration with the Oulu Art Museum as an extension of the exhibition Tomun tieto/Listen to the Dust curated by Selina Väliheikki at the Ouluntaidemuseoon/Oulu Art Museum, which is on display until 27 October 2024.
The project is supported by the Norwegian-Finnish Culture Fund.
Flis Holland (FI/UK) follows the collisions of trans and celestial bodies. Hollands solo exhibition “Off-Colour” was held at the Helsinki Art Museum in 2023. In 2022 they were shortlisted for Below Zero Finnish Art Prize and they were part of the HIAP residency program. Recent group shows include Pitted Dates, Pori Biennale (FI) and Bemis Center (US), and screenings at Rakkautta & Anarkiaa, Uppsala (SE), KasselerDokfest (DE) and BAFICI (AR).
